About Kootenai Classical Academy

Our Purpose

Kootenai Classical Academy is a tuition-free charter school dedicated to educating well-rounded students with what is timeless, fundamental, and best in human thought, including arts, math, science, history, and language.

We believe learning should be exciting, fun, and important, and that kids want to learn and to excel in a school they love.

We want our students to be self-governing, educated, honest citizens, not just employees. The jobs students train for today may not exist ten or twenty years from now. Jobs do not make the human mind; the human mind makes jobs. So, let’s work on the minds of young people first, and they will build our economy.

Mission

The mission of Kootenai Classical Academy is to develop the minds and hearts of students so they understand and desire that which is objectively true, good, and beautiful. Through our classical, content-based curriculum, we educate students in the liberal arts, sciences, and athletics and work to equip our students with the moral and intellectual virtues needed for them to live fulfilling, good, and meaningful lives.

Is A Classical Education Relevant Today?

A classical education teaches young people the best: the best that has been thought, said, done, and discovered over the course of our long Western and American heritage.

These are not just old books we are teaching. What we are really doing in teaching young people the classics is teaching new dogs old tricks.

Math has not changed much in the last couple of hundred, or even thousand, years. Are we better at geometry than Euclid? How about language? English has been around for a while. Have we gone beyond Shakespeare, Milton, Jane Austen, Benjamin Franklin, or Abraham Lincoln in how we use it?
